Full Crack [portable] The game is a pretty standard autorunner that consists of 27 levels (81 when combining the Bubsy, Virgil and Woolie stages), 27 special stages (where you play as Arnold) and 3 bosses.The story is short and to the point, the character one liners are pretty decent (and isn\u2019t trying to be too annoying) and the stages aren\u2019t too long. The music is alright and each character have it\u2019s own styled tracks.The game difficulty curve is pretty smooth and by the time they toss more difficult levels at you, you basically mastered the game and you should be able to pass them fairly quickly. The checkpoints are pretty well placed after the more challenging sections of the levels, so helps reduce the frustration if you are trying to do a 100% clear (150 collectibles and 3 token pieces).You aren\u2019t required to collect every collectible but is strongly encouraged to gather the 3 pieces of the Arnold token for an easy extra clear at his special stage. You only need 75 stages cleared to fight the final boss (Oinker), so you can skip some levels you find getting on your nerves.The collectibles you gather (yarn balls, atoms, golden yarn balls and gems\/crystals) are used to purchase skins in the shop. They don\u2019t affect the gameplay and just changes up the characters looks a bit.Bubsy can pounce\/dash and glide, Virgil can double jump and slide, Woolie is shmup (with with a lot of emphasis on mainly dodging stuff and gather the collectibles rather than shooting) and Arnold has 360 tube runner gameplay.Each character feels fun to play and is best played in order (Bubsy\u2192Virgil\u2192Woolie\u2192Arnold) to prevent the gameplay getting too repetitive. Arnold and Woolie have the shortest stages, so make good breathers after some reasonably intense platforming with Bubsy and Virgil.The controls are good but the Arnold gameplay takes some time getting used to as you have to rotate the d-pad\/stick in the direction you want him to move (as just pressing left or right may make him take the upper path when you tried to make him take the lower path to gather collectibles or vice versa).The game isn\u2019t especially optimized however, so you may experience frame-rate drops on the more cluttered stages.The price is pretty standard for an indie game, but may be a bit steep in some regions (haven\u2019t checked if the price is localized). Overall it\u2019s an okay autorunner with Bubsy theme that should keep you occupied for 4-6 hours.So if you are a Bubsy fan it hopefully satisfies you, and if you received this as some sort of gag gift during a holiday sale or birthday you may as well give it a spin and see if it entertains you.. Don't let the first few levels of Bubsy: Paws on Fire deter you! As the difficulty ramps up, so does the fun of the game.The colourful and smart presentation is a positive step up from previous Bubsy games, the self-aware loading screen text and character quotes adding a charm that had me smiling through most of my playthroughs. There are also a couple of cutscenes featuring spoken dialogue, and bosses to fight. The music is very\t catchy, and a joy to listen to. It syncs with the level designs too.Each playable character has a unique moveset, keeping things fresh: Bubsy can use his signature glide in mid-air, and pounce through enemies. Virgil can double jump and slide, familiar to anyone that has played the Bit.Trip Runner games. Woolie can shoot enemies and fly freely in her spaceship. Arnold rolls around an axis in forward-scrolling underground tube levels.Following minimal requirements to progress through the game will detract from the fun. There is a layer of depth when it comes to collecting everything and achieving as high a score as possible. For example, Bubsy and Virgil generate extra points when airborne, Woolie can shoot things for extra points.Generating points increases a Bonus meter, which not only grants a multiplier to the points you receive, but also changes the appearance of your character over time. For example, Bubsy goes on fire, then transforms into a spooky but dazzling cosmic entity. Touches like this make gaining points feel more rewarding.Now, some criticism. The horizontal scrolling of each course is a bit jittery, which isn't easy on the eyes when following things that come towards you. I hope devs read this and make an attempt to patch it. Also, flashing particles that appear when collecting items can be a bit off-putting too.Overall, the game feels good to play, and gets really, really challenging, something I value highly in this age of gaming. Anyone that is familiar with Bubsy's world through games, television and comics will feel a warm, fuzzy hug of nostalgia.. And on the 3rd day he rose again. I bought this game because I expected another great Choice Provisions Game (I loved all of the bit.trip runner games and have put in a collective 100+ hours into them) and I am not disappointed!The game's art-style is definitely reminiscent of Runner3, especially in the enemies (of which I have only seen frogs so far). While I do miss the classic bit.trip tune, the music in this game is still very well done (maybe Bubsy fans will be happy? I just really like the bit.trip music). The controls are tight, though the controls for each character definitely take some getting used to. Virgil is probably the most like commander video (which is probably why I am able to 100% every Virgil level easily) but Bubsy is a far more complex character with a very different moveset; Woolie is even more so, with her hectic flying and shooting. That said, I really enjoy playing as each character, and the differences in how they play make each individual run through each level feel vastly different and rewarding. I wish I enjoyed the Arnold bonus levels more, but the controls were just hard to get down. I want to just push left and right on the D-Pad but when rolling up the sides and tops of walls that just doesn't work, and it always throws me off. I suppose I just need to get better at that though.I never played a Bubsy game, though I have heard that it is one of the worst-reviewed game series of all time. That said, this game is very enjoyable insofar as I have played, and I would highly recommend it to bit.trip runner fans (and maybe Bubsy fans).. Before the dawn of time, the elder gods pondered what would be the most horrific atrocity that of which they could release among the cosmos to wreak havoc. after eons of contemplating, the unfathomable beasts that our puny minds dare not think names for, as our lowly human tongues cannot begin to pronounce such alien languages, came across the horrid realization that only one being could bring such suffering to the universe that they despise...BubsyThroughout the last several decades, there have been horrible people. Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin are three that come to mind. Yet even the combined evil of these horrid men cannot match the uncontainable cruelty that is Bubsy. Worlds have ended at the hands of this Bobcat, even though he proclaims himself a hero. Countries have shattered like glass ornaments stepped on by a man looking to get little more than a glass of milk in the night, who did not see the fragile globe on the floor. Each of those fragments of sharp broken glass entering the mans foot might as well be Bubsy. \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 it, I'm done playing around. Playing a Bubsy game is like stepping into a pool full of legos with bare feet that have been skinned. It is unfathomably painful. Long story short, I encountered a glitch that made my character invisible in the first level, and made the game unplayable for that level. 12\/10 would never touch this again.. Ah, this game. A notable improvement over the last one! Though don't get your hopes up, it's still not exactly good (not even on Bubsy standards, although it does come close) and has some glaring flaws and some disappointments, but it's at least entertaining and it does some things well enough. It also doesn't help that I don't care much for runners and I feel like this would have been stronger if it was just a normal platformer, but meh, whatever.------I'll get to my criticisms first. 1. Having to use every character on every stage for basic progressionMy biggest gripe is having to replay every level with at least two of the characters to progress. I was expecting something like Super Mario Bros. 2 where you could play with whatever character you wanted and move on, but I guess the executives wanted to pad out the game. I felt it was kinda lame how similar Virgil and Bubsy are, as if originally they were going to be one character but then someone decided to split their abilities into two characters? I also didn't care for the Arnold stages. They're basically the Sonic 2 special stages except the controls are kinda weird and hard to get used to. I honestly didn't bother playing with Virgil or Arnold much and stuck to Bubsy and the Woolie 90% of the time. I can see them having to be played to collect things to unlock shop items, or maybe playing with all medals unlocks a big secret (maybe it does? idk), but with this being a mandatory thing for basic progression from level to level and so on, it really makes this game feel like it overstays its welcome at times and can only really be played in short doses. But that's just me. While I'm at it, I'll also mention that controlling Woolie's spaceship is kind of herky-jerky. She goes backwards too slow, she goes forwards too fast, it generally didn't feel too polished. Maybe they should have just stuck to having Bubsy and Arnold stages only, or better yet, just Bubsy. But again, the executives probably took the criticism of The Woolies Strike Back being too short\/not having much content and decided "Let's just have the devs pad out the game. Playing the same level 3 times in a row is what they want, right? haha!" Bubsy Nation deserves better than this.2. Yo what's up with those cutscenes???So there was 2(?) years put into developing this game, there was a whole development team behind it and a budget, but the cutscenes are riddled with issues. I liked the dialogue and I think the character models are a marked improvement over the last game, and the fact it was fully animated was lightyears better than the last game's scrolling jpg cutscenes, but... Bubsy's eyes clipped like crazy and his face looked like he ate a bee, some of the character movements look really stiff (Poly and Ester just sort of vampire slide into the ending scene), and honestly the backgrounds look like they were animated with more care than the main characters. While I'm at it, I'm also disappointed that death animations didn't come back, even if they were quick.3. Lackluster costume shopThe costume shop was a feature I'm pretty sure a lot of fans were excited about, but idk... the options were really... bland? I honestly didn't even bother with this feature since there were only a few options I liked, and I only sorta liked them. Maybe I'm just salty I couldn't make Bubsy wear a dress. What? Bubsy would look pretty cute as a lady.4. Some other thingsThe resolution of the Bubsy logo on the loading screen is noticeably too low compared to everything else, the BGM for the levels will play double over each other simultaneously when you reload the level too fast, also didn't like how in the second world the first two levels are more forest even though the cutscene clearly shows Bubsy flying into the UFO base. It's like "Yeah I know this isn't a UFO base, it's a forest!" I could understand maybe having one level in world 2 where it's like that, but two levels in a row seeing mostly things I've already seen 100 times before in world 1, especially considering you have to replay the levels 3 times each, really fried my attention span. Doesn't help that several of the enemies are functionally the same thing as others, but at least they had unique animations and graphics, another improvement over the last game. Also didn't care for the gross-out humor. Bubsy should stick to self-awareness and puns, thanks.-------With the negatives out of the way, let's get onto the positives!1. Yo what's up with those cutscenes???I actually get the impression the cutscenes were bad on purpose. They're honestly really entertaining, there's so much weird stuff going on in the backgrounds, and the dialogue is amusing. I already talked about the positives and improvements in the previous section, so huzzah!2. The OSTGreat stuff! The sound design in this game in general is really good. No complaints here.3. Ohhhhh the references...I could tell that Choice Provisions didn't phone this in like Black Forest did. This game is filled to the brim with references to the original Bubsy games. Almost all of the characters make appearances in this, some familiar items returned, and it seems they may have even taken notes from some non-canon sources too.4. It's actually challenging this time!The Woolies Strike Back was insanely easy and could be completed in under an hour or two by most people. This game, although it does suffer from gratuitous padding, is actually challenging and the level designs don't generally feel thrown together.5. Hey, a more appropriate price this time!The Woolies Strike Back was roughly $40 at launch iirc, and we all know how little there actually was in that game. This game feels like it was worth $15, so honestly $20 isn't that bad.idk I just kinda like this game? There's a weird charm to this installment that was completely absent from the Woolies Strike Back. Honestly, it's hard for me to hate this game even with its glaring flaws. An effort was made. And if they make some interesting enough DLC and fix the issues I pointed out, I'd totally support it. I was a $100 backer for the DLC campaign, which unfortunately(?) failed. But I hope Accolade learns this time if they have another Bubsy game made. The next one could actually be actually good if they take notes from what I've said here.I wouldn't call this the best Bubsy game though, although I do enjoy it somewhat. Bubsy 1 still reigns supreme for being the most competent and passionate game in the series with Bubsy 3D in second for being so bad it's good. I'd say Paws on Fire is a close third place, mostly because of how it makes you replay each level 3 times in a row.Cheers! And good luck on the next one.. This game wasn't ever going to be a big one. Expecting Bubsy to be on the same page as other platformer characters from his time was going to be a mistake, and obviously going in with nothing but hate for him would destroy all positives for this. However, for what we got, we got an average to good game this time around. There's obviously some finicky stuff, the controls were awkward for Arnold's bonus levels, having to play the same levels twice can get repetitive and the bosses are still kinda a joke, plus there's the obvious day one bugs here and there, but as a simple runner game with the Bubsy IP, the game did alot of things right that were little done or missing from Woolies Strike Back, especially FEELING like a Bubsy game. WSB just felt like Giana Sisters with some Bubsy lines. POF actually had a nice blend of playing like Runner, but feeling like Bubsy with how they played, their lines and the level designs themselves. I do wish there was more to the customization, i wish the credits actually credited the voice actors this time and i do hope this game's gets updates to improve itself over time, but i am giving this game a thumbs up because it is, whether people like to admit or not, a GOOD Bubsy game, and that is a very nice improvement over the mediocre one that was Woolies Strike Back. All i can say for this is that it's a step in the right direction and i'm hopeful that the next game improves from this one in many ways too. I am thoroughly looking forward to what comes next for the bobcat. - Xin. He's done it! He's finally made his first good game. This game is a lot like the runner series as how it's an "auto runner" type of game. If you liked those games, be sure to give this a try. Bubsy Doesn't talk as much during his adventure this time around. Don't believe me? He says so himself. I love the humor in this game, The characters are self-aware as to that they know their in a game, and not just that, they are also aware of the reputation the Bubsy series in general has. And ALL of the levels are named after puns! If you love auto running platformers in general, give this a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
